Kōwhai bangle

These 100% natural yellow sapphire kowhai “seeds” are flush set into hand carved sterling silver. I have hand textured the ridgy texture of the seedpod with my burr.
The bangle wire profile is 4.5mm wide and 2.3mm deep. 
This bangle should fit a medium sized wrist. (Approx 16cm to 18cm around the wrist.)
This bangle has been hand drawn and hand formed from solid sterling silver. I have hardened it with a hammer so it can flex a little as you put the bangle on. I can be adjusted a few times to get the sizing right, but to much bending will cause the silver to weaken. So I advise to adjust one time so you can just squeeze the bangle across the narrowest part of your wrist with it flexing a tiny bit but without bending the bangle. Note the difference between flexing and bending. Flexing means it bounces back to the original shape while bending means changing the shape. 
To set the sapphires, I drill and burr out the holes for the gemstones which have to be exactly the same size and shape of each individual gem, this is the tricky bit because if I take away even a fraction too much metal, I can’t put it back and the gem won’t be set well. Once I have the gemstone seated perfectly, I burnish the metal down onto it, to lock it in (no glue is ever involved) For the finishing touch, I hand engrave the details to make the texture with my burr. I love engraving with a burr; the process, the simplicity, the skill and the result. You just can’t get that hand crafted feel with laser cut or cast or CAD techniques
